In 1919, as Black soldiers came home from World War I, white mobs attacked Black communities in more than three dozen cities across the country. NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson named that season the Red Summer, and in places like Chicago and Washington, D.C., Black residents fought back. This hoodie lists 22 of those cities under Du Bois's words.
